The Parador de Mérida occupies an 18th-century building with a long history. It was built on the remains of a temple dedicated to the Concord of Augustus and, before becoming a Parador, served as a temple, church, hospital, Roman forum, mosque and even a prison, having been occupied by Christians, Moors, Visigoths and Romans. It preserves historical remains dating back 2,000 years. The interior cloister and gardens where the 'Garden of Antiquities' has been installed, an archaeological complex composed of Mudéjar, Roman and Visigothic elements, are remarkable. The Parador, located in the heart of Mérida, offers the opportunity to discover the rich heritage of the city and the surrounding natural spaces, where it stands out above all for its Roman theatre, one of the best preserved in the world. Its restaurant offers local specialities: a selection of Iberian pork products and a selection of D.O. cheeses, Castilian-style sirloin steak, roasts, suckling pig or lamb. Come and discover Extremadura.
