The Parador de Cangas de Onís is located on the edge of a vast slope at the foot of the Picos de Europa, overlooking the waters of the Sella river. According to tradition, it was erected by King Alfonso I in the 8th century and later became the monastery of San Pedro de Villanueva between the 12th and 18th centuries. For this reason, it was declared a National Monument in 1907. The building gains beauty inside thanks to its architectural elements such as the stone of its light-colored walls, the arcades and columns present in the corridors and common rooms, and the solid wooden beams on the ceiling. And outside, discover the wonders of the Asturian landscape, its festivals and ancestral folklore, and taste the most authentic of its rich gastronomic recipes: Asturian pot, fabada and different types of delicious cheeses accompanied by natural cider. The lakes of Covadonga, various caves and manifestations of Romanesque and Gothic art await you.
