The Parador de Benavente is located in a Renaissance castle dating from 1202. This historic building has welcomed a large number of travellers from neighbouring countries as well as pilgrims travelling the Way of Saint James. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and featuring rooms decorated with Castilian details, the hotel is a haven of peace. Also enjoy the delicious gastronomy of Zamora here. The castle had been built on the orders of Fernando II of León. During the War of Independence, in 1808, it suffered serious damage, although it retained the original spiral tower with its Mudéjar coffered ceilings. This unique historic building has welcomed a large number of travellers coming from routes that crossed France, Spain and Portugal, as well as pilgrims who have walked the Silver Route of the Way of Saint James. A collection of beautiful gardens surrounds the Parador. Its rooms have a classic décor in which one can appreciate the elements present in all the interiors: rugs, tapestries, lamps, wood and Castilian brickwork. Enjoy the delicious gastronomy of Zamora in the restaurant: the Benaventan pepper barbecue, cod with string and roast lamb are some of its most representative dishes. For dessert, try the tocinillo de cielo.
